The teaching of English will become transversal to all ages, starting from the nursery, with the goal of working towards a tendentially bilingual education.
WHY?
The biological advantage that young children have that allows them to easily learn the phonological and grammatical rules of a language hits its peak before they complete three years of age. This ability is less conditioned by the auditory training that an adult has to perceive sounds according to their own language, and we can take advantage of the natural spontaneity of children towards experimentation, which, over time, is replaced by the fear of making a mistake before others. Today we also know that learning a foreign language precociously potentiates the acquisition and expression of their own mother tongue.
HOW?
We want the first contact of the children with the English language to occur in a natural, pleasant and stimulating way, instilling, in each one of them, a positive attitude in relation to the learning process, without interfering with their routines and increasing as they grow up. In these moments, children will be mainly involved in songs, games, rhymes and stories that are told and sung exclusively in English. We will create, in every room, a climate where the children’s natural curiosity to communicate in English is awakened, through these activities, performed in small groups and in an involving and interactive fashion, always favoring the ludic aspect of these learning experiences.
We strongly believe in this project, and in all the reinforcement of the English learning transverse to the entire schooling, that has been recently emphasized in Portuguese schools. So that you can know more about the project, before we have the opportunity to talk personally, we enclose the basis of our project (“The English language in the Saídos da Casca’s curriculum”) and some answers to frequently asked questions.
